Unless already contracted , the 13% drop in crude oil prices ought to represent a good saving for Turkish imports ( saving around $600m / year based on last year import volume ) , and relieving some pressure on fx reserves and the lira

So the central bank bought $12b worth of US dollars at 34-36 and resold it to the market at 39-41 last week ,, nice $1.5b profit in lira terms to add to its balance sheet ,, the foreign investors who did the inverse operation have probably lost a little ( depends how far back they got into the carry trade ) ,, a profitable trade for a country like Turkey will be volatility options ( if they exist ) ..

Stefan Beckthe lira dropped around 3.8% last week (36.6 to 38 ) and the carry trade would make around 2.8% per month ,, so i guess theyre trying to engineer the price in a way so investors can recoup their loss on the next monthly cycle to restore confidence ,,. Sensible idea but will eat up more from fx reserves

true. looks like its exactly this. only reason price could hold value even at 5 time swap day. so maybe 3-4 weeks we will see this now again..... but nobody know how people react after ramadan over and many back to business. sometimes harder to calculate such effects.
