FRANKFURT, June 22 (Reuters) - German shopping centre developer and operator Management fuer Immobilien (Mfi) plans to bid for some of insolvent Arcandor's Karstadt department stores, Mfi's chief executive told a newspaper.
"We think we it is possible to transform 20 of the 91 department store locations and will therefore bid for them," financial daily Handelsblatt on Monday quoted Mfi CEO Matthias Boening as saying.
Arcandor filed for insolvency earlier this month after the German government rejected its calls for state aid. Mfi said it would look into an acquisition of the stores as soon as official insolvency proceedings begin on Sept. 1, the paper said.
Arcandor's insolvency administrator Klaus Hubert Goerg said last week that there would not be any sales until Sept. 1.
The head of Arcandor rival Metro affirmed in an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel over the weekend that Metro was still interested in taking over 60 Karstadt stores. (Reporting by Eva Kuehne; editing by Simon Jessop)
