Investment Strategy
The investment strategy is thorough bottom up fundamental analysis. The majority of securities trades are South African equities. We will invest in bonds opportunistically when the return expectations are looking equity-like and we believe there is asymmetry to the payoff profile. We believe the South African hedge fund industry in not very crowded with only 1% of the SA asset management industry’s assets managed by hedge fund managers. There is also a solid infrastructure for script lending. Number of long positions average between 30-35. Number of short positions average between 15-20. The team run a passive stop loss process where a review kicks in once an idea moves against you by more than 10%. The four portfolio managers manage the investment risk amongst each other ensuring responsible sector exposure and other diversification factors.
