The investment seeks capital growth and income consistent with prudent investment management. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities of real estate companies and companies related to the real estate industry. It invests in equity securities, primarily common stocks. The fund may invest a significant portion of its total assets in real estate investment trusts (REITs) and other similar REIT-like structures. It may invest in derivative securities, such as swaps, options, futures and options on futures, which are principally tied to the real estate industry, for hedging purposes and to seek returns on the fund's otherwise uninvested cash.

Biography | Iain Clayton is a Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Quantitative Equity Portfolio Management for Schwab Asset Management. He is responsible for the day-to-day co-management of the Schwab Core Equity Fund, Schwab International Core Equity Fund, Schwab Health Care Fund, Schwab Small-Cap Equity Fund, and Schwab Global Real Estate Fund. Mr. Clayton also leads Schwab Asset Management’s quantitative investment management team. Prior to joining Schwab in 2013, Mr. Clayton spent more than five years at SSI Investment Management where he was a portfolio manager and the director of quantitative research. In these roles, Mr. Clayton co-managed multiple investment strategies and developed quantitative models and valuation approaches. From 2004 to 2008, he worked as a portfolio manager and director at RCM Capital Management (now known as Allianz Global Investors) and helped manage various equity portfolios and developed fundamental-based stock selection models.
