The investment seeks to maximize total return (capital appreciation and income). The fund normally invests at least 50% of its total assets in stocks of established U.S. companies that the adviser believes have above-average potential for capital growth. The remaining assets are generally invested in other securities, such as convertibles, corporate and government debt securities (including mortgage- and asset-backed securities), high yield securities (commonly known as "junk bonds"), bank loans and foreign securities, in keeping with the fund's objective.
