The investment seeks long-term capital appreciation. The fund invests at least 80% of the sum of its net assets and the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes in equity securities of companies with market capitalizations at the time of investment comparable to companies in either the Russell 2000® Value Index or the Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600 Index. It invests primarily in U.S. equity securities, but it may invest up to 35% of its net assets in non-U.S. equity securities, including up to 10% of its net assets in equity securities of companies located in emerging market countries.

Before joining Poplar Forest in 2019, Phyllis spent 29 years at NWQ as Senior Managing Director, Chair of the Investment Oversight Committee and Portfolio Manager. Upon her resignation, she managed more than $1.7 billion in small-cap value and SMID-cap value equity assets. Previously in her career, Ms. Thomas held the position of Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager with the Boston Company where she managed institutional portfolios for three years. She also spent seven years at Beneficial Standard Investment Management Company as a Senior Portfolio Manager for the company’s equity funds and outside advisory accounts. Ms. Thomas graduated from Northern Illinois University and received her M.B.A. from University of California at Los Angeles. She earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst in 1979. Ms. Thomas is a past president of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts, co-chairman of the FIM-West conference and past chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee. She is also a member of the CFA Institute. |
