Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to provide capital growth and appreciation. The fund seeks to achieve its objective by investing, under normal circumstances, at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities of companies with operations throughout the world that own, explore or develop natural resources and other basic commodities or supply goods and services to such companies. Under normal circumstances, the manager anticipates that a significant portion of the fund's portfolio will consist of issuers in the energy and materials sectors.

Biography Sam Halpert, CFA Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer — Global Natural Resources Equity Sam Halpert leads the firm’s Global Natural Resources Equity team. Prior to joining Macquarie Investment Management (MIM) in July 2018, he worked at Van Eck, where he was a co-portfolio manager and senior analyst on its global hard assets long-only and long-short team from April 2000 to June 2018. He specialized in agriculture, coal, paper and forest products, refining, shipping, and steel investments. He also managed a global real estate fund at Van Eck earlier in his career. Prior to that, he worked at Goldman Sachs, which ultimately became Citi Group, and he worked at Refco. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature from Harvard College.

Biography Michael Wolverton is co-portfolio manager of Ivy Energy Fund and Ivy VIP Energy and of Ivy Natural Resources Fund and Ivy VIP Natural Resources. He had been assistant portfolio manager of the Energy and Natural Resources funds since 2013. He was named co-portfolio manager of the Energy and Natural Resources funds in 2016. He is co-portfolio manager of Ivy Focused Energy NextShares, an exchange-traded managed fund, since 2016. Mr. Wolverton joined the organization in 2005 as an equity investment analyst after holding a summer intern position with the firm in 2004. He was appointed assistant vice president in 2012 and vice president in 2017. His research responsibilities are concentrated in energy equipment and services, and oil, gas and consumable fuels. From 2003 through 2005 Mr. Wolverton was affiliated with the MBA Investment Fund, LLC as a portfolio manager. In this role, he and his team were responsible for managing three equity and fixed income portfolios totaling $12 million. Mr. Wolverton graduated from William Jewell College in 1997 with a BS in Accounting. He earned an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business in 2005. Mr. Wolverton is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Kansas City.

David earned a BS, Accounting from Kansas State University and holds the CPA designation.

Fred has been with Mackenzie Investments since 1981 when he started his investment career. Fred has a BCom in Finance from the University of Toronto and is a CFA charterholder.
