Investment Strategy

The BlackRock Asia Extension Fund seeks to maximise long term returns through the use of an extension strategy. Use of an extension strategy means that in addition to having up to 100% of the Fund’s assets exposed to equity securities via long and/or synthetic long positions, the intention is that it will enter into synthetic short positions in order to achieve additional investment exposure. The proceeds from those synthetic short positions will be used to buy additional synthetic long positions (broadly in the same proportion as the short positions it holds). The Fund will seek to gain at least 70% of its investment exposure to companies domiciled in, or exercising the predominant part of their economic activity in Asia (ex Japan). The Fund will seek to achieve this investment objective by investing at least 70% of its total assets in equities and equity-related securities (including derivatives) and, when determined appropriate, cash and near-cash instruments.
