Investment Strategy

The sub-Fund aims to outperform (after deduction of costs) the TOPIX, as stated in Sterling, by at least 1.5% per annum over rolling five-year periods. The sub-Fund will invest at least 90% in shares of Japanese companies being those which are listed, incorporated, domiciled or conducting a significant portion of their business in Japan. The sub-fund will be actively managed and will invest in companies of any size and sector.

Sarah is the longest standing partner within the firm, having been appointed in 1986. She is the lead manager for the Japan Investment Trust as well as co-manager for the Japanese All Cap strategy. Sarah is also a member of the EAFE Alpha Portfolio Construction Group.

Biography John is an Investment Manager and member of the Long Term Global Growth (LTGG) and China A-Share teams. He has been a Partner in the firm since 2016. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 as a part of the North American department and then went on to work in the Japan and Global Discovery teams before joining his current teams. John graduated MA in Ancient & Modern History from the University of Oxford in 2000.
