The Fund aims to maximise interest income, preserve the portfolio’s capital and provide immediate liquidity, by maintaining a certain minimum of assets in liquid form as determined by the investment manager from time to time. The portfolio may be invested in instruments issued by the 4 large domestic banks and any other domestic bank that is rated F1+ or better. The portfolio will be permitted to invest in local branches of foreign banks with an AA or better rating. The portfolio may also invest in South African government debt, instruments explicitly guaranteed by the South African Government, and with the South African Reserve Bank. The portfolio will not invest in conduits nor in non-bank corporates, parastatal entities, municipalities or state owned enterprises. The portfolio will comply with investment guidelines applying to retirement funds and medical schemes in South Africa.
