Investment Strategy

The investment objective is to provide long-term capital appreciation through investment in a diversified portfolio of securities as defined by a relevant index. To achieve its objective, the Fund will invest in equity securities which meet Islamic investment principles of companies in the Index, by following a replication investment approach (investing in shares of companies generally in the same proportions as their weightings in the Index). The Fund may invest up to 10% of its assets in other Funds.

Biography Bijan Seghatchian is a senior fund manager, Head of Equity Index funds, having managed the Index Fund range since 2009. Previously he joined the Quantitive Equities Team in 2007 as operations and business development manager, having originally joined the HSBC Global Asset Management Group in 1995 as a systems analyst/developer and later senior project manager. Bijan holds a BSc in Psychology/Philosophy from Bristol University, an MSc in Information Systems & Technology from City University in London and a Post-Graduate certificate in Economics from Birkbeck University of London.

Biography Ed Gurung has been at HSBC Global Asset Management since September 2007 and has been a portfolio manager in the Quantitative Equity Team in London since 2014. He is responsible for the management of HSBC’s segregated and pooled funds across traditional market cap, smart beta and factor strategies. Peter currently manages a broad allocation of different fund structures including segregated, commingled pension, ETFs and retail funds, with a primary focus and expertise in the Americas, Europe ex UK, and global strategies. Previously, Ed worked in HSBC’s Global Private Banking Division, within the trade support area. Ed started his career in a brokerage support role at Beta 2 in 2006 where he was working in the commodities division. Ed holds a BA in Business Studies, majoring in Finance from the University of De-Montfort. He is a CFA level 3 candidate, a member of CISI, and registered ACSI. Ed represents HSBC on the FTSE Index committees, supporting best practices and evolution and improvement of benchmarks.

Biography Harvey Sidhu, Director, is a portfolio manager in BlackRock's Index Equity Portfolio Management Group, covering a range of iShares equity funds. Mr. Sidhu joined the iShares portfolio management team in January 2011. Prior to joining BlackRock, he was senior portfolio manager and head of index equity at HSBC Global Asset Management. During this time his responsibilities included the day-to-day management of HSBC's pooled and segregated passive funds tracking a broad range of developed and emerging market indices. Mr. Sidhu joined HSBC's Global Index team in 2005 from the firm's Global Research Group, where he worked for five years as a quantitative equity analyst. Mr. Sidhu's investment management career commenced at Rothschild Asset Management in 1996 where he joined as a graduate trainee. During this time his assignments included equity strategy analysis, research coverage of European defensive growth sectors and assistant fund manager. Mr. Sidhu graduated from City University (Cass) Business School with an MSc in Investment Management.
