Investment Strategy

The Fund aims to provide a higher total return (the combination of capital growth and income), net of the Ongoing Charge Figure, than the average return of the Bloomberg Global Treasury Index Unhedged USD over any five-year period. At least 70% of the Fund is invested, directly or indirectly through derivatives, in investment grade debt securities. These securities can be issued or guaranteed by governments and their agencies, public authorities, quasi-sovereigns, and supranational bodies from anywhere in the world, including Emerging Markets. These securities can be denominated in any currency.

Biography Eva Sun-Wai became the lead manager on the Global Government Bond strategy and deputy manager on the Global Macro Bond strategy in January 2021. Since September 2019, Eva had been a junior macro fund manager in the Wholesale Fixed Income team, where her role involved implementing macroeconomic trade ideas in the Global Macro Bond and the Absolute Return Bond strategies. She joined M&G in 2018 on the Investment Graduate Scheme, rotating across several business areas including emerging market debt, corporate credit research, real estate and long-term investment strategy. Before joining M&G, she worked on passive products and ETF strategies as a summer intern at State Street Global Advisors. Biography Claudia Calich joined M&G in October 2013 as a specialist in emerging markets debt and has been fund manager of the M&G Emerging Markets Bond Fund since December 2013. She was also appointed fund manager of the M&G Global Government Bond Fund and deputy manager of the M&G Global Macro Bond Fund in July 2015. In May 2017, Claudia was appointed fund manager of the M&G (Lux) Emerging Markets Hard Currency Bond Fund at its launch. Claudia has over 20 years of experience in emerging markets, most recently as a senior portfolio manager at Invesco in New York.

Biography Mike Riddell joined Allianz Global Investors in October 2015 as a fixed income portfolio manager and is the original member and Head of the Macro Unconstrained team. He has 21 years’ experience in fixed income having worked with M&G in London for 12 years, running bond portfolios, and prior to that at Premier Asset Management. As well as depth of experience, Mike’s experience is broad, having run a range of UK and global fixed income portfolios over his career, covering both developed markets and emerging markets. Mike graduated from Birmingham University in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in money, banking and finance, and is a CFA® charter holder.

Biography Jim Leaviss was appointed CIO of M&G Public Fixed Income in February 2020, heading a team that invests across investment grade and high yield credit, government debt and emerging markets debt. He joined M&G in 1997 after five years at the Bank of England, where he worked as a gilt market analyst and dealer. As well as heading up the team, Jim is manager and co-manager of a range of fixed income funds domiciled in London and Luxembourg.

Biography David joined Prudential Portfolio Managers SA, as Head of Fixed Income in January 2009. David worked at Prudential in South Africa in 1999 and 2000, and was responsible for establishing our current fixed interest process. Prior to Prudential, he was the senior fixed interest portfolio manager in the London office of M&G Investments. David joined M&G in 1997 as member of the fixed income team, specialising in UK and Global bond portfolios. Before joining M&G, David worked for Hill Samuel Asset Management as a fixed income fund manager, managing both life and pension funds for a variety of clients. David graduated from the London School of Economics with a BSc in Economics and from Birkbeck College with an MSc in Economics. He is an Associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research.

Biography Andrew graduated with a BA (hons) in Economics from Manchester Polytechnic.He first joined Whittingdale Investment Management as an economics researcher, before moving to Natwest/Gartmore as a Senior Bond Manager. Andrew most recently spent 3 years at Baring Asset Management, before moving to M&G as a Fund Manager in the Institutional Fixed Interest Team.

Biography Richard joined M&G in April 2001. He also manages the M&G International Sovereign Bond Fund as well as a range of institutional international government bond funds. Prior to joining M&G Richard spent three years at Nomura Asset Management as an institutional fund manager and four years at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson in the Credit Products Group.
