The Fund invests primarily (at least 70% of its Net Asset Value) in equity securities or equity-related securities (such as preference shares, rights issues and warrants) of companies that are listed, or have their registered offices in, or conduct a majority of their economic activity in the Asian Region (excluding Australia, New Zealand and Japan). The Fund is not subject to any limitation on the portion of its Net Asset Value that may be invested in any one or more Emerging Markets in the Asian Region (excluding Australia, New Zealand and Japan), any sector or any limitation on the market capitalisation of the companies in which it may invest.

Biography | Richard Jones is a Director of First State Stewart Asia, part of First State Investments. Richard has more than 29 years of investment experience in Asia, focused on both company research and portfolio management. He joined the First State Stewart Asia team in January 2010 and is based in Hong Kong. Richard is the lead manager of the First State Asia Opportunities Fund, the First State Asian Growth Fund and the First State Singapore and Malaysia Fund. Biography | Alistair Thompson joined First State's Asia Pacific/ Global Emerging Markets team in January 2003 in the role of Senior Portfolio Manager for Asia Pacific Equity. Alistair plays a supporting role in the management of Global Emerging Markets product, and has specific responsibility for research on Australasian companies. Following the merger of the Edinburgh-based Asia Pacific team with the Hong Kong and Singapore Asian teams in September 2003, Alistair took on the role of Deputy Head of Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) and relocated to Singapore in December 2003.Alistair joined First State from Edinburgh Fund Managers where he worked for nine years and was Head of Asia Pacific (ex Japan). Alistair was the portfolio manager for a range of open ended funds and a leading investment trust. Prior to joining Edinburgh Fund Managers in November 1993, he worked for CIM Fund Managers where he started managing their money market funds from 1990 and their Asian funds from 1992, having joined the firm in 1989. Biography | Ho Hsiu-Mei joined First State Investments in January 2003 as senior portfolio manager. She is a specialist in Taiwan, Korea and technology equities. In spring 2007 she was appointed Co-Manager on the Greater China Growth fund and has deputy manager responsibilities on a number of Asia Pacific funds. Hsiu-Mei brings 14 years experience to her role gained at reputable investment managers, including Citigroup Asset Management and Schroder Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited. Whilst with Schroders from 1990 to 2000, Hsiu-Mei managed some of the top performing Taiwan and Asian Emerging Markets funds in the industry at that time. Hsiu-Mei graduated from the National Taiwan University with a Bachelor of Arts (major in Economics) and holds an MBA (major in Finance) from the University of California, Berkeley, USA. | ||

Biography | Vijay Tohani is a Senior Portfolio Manager with First State Investments' Asia Pacific (ex-Japan)/Global Emerging Markets team, having joined the company as a Senior Analyst in April 2000. Vijay initially covered China and South East Asia until the end of 2000 and now focuses on Emerging Asia, in particular Korea and the Indian Sub-continent. Vijay took on portfolio manager responsibilities in October 2003. He relocated from Edinburgh to Singapore in July 2006.Vijay began his career with Ernst & Young where he worked in the audit department specialising in banking and financial services companies from the period 1991-1994. Vijay started his investment career, first on the sell-side, as an Asian Equity Sales specialist for stockbrokers Worldsec International Ltd from 1996-1997 and then on the buy-side, as an Investment Analyst with John Hancock Advisers International Ltd from 1997-1999.
