Investment Strategy

The fund aims to generate monthly income, combined with some capital growth over a five year period. The fund invests 40% to 80% in bonds (of any credit quality) and 20% to 60% in company shares. The fund may also invest in near cash, other transferable securities, other funds (up to 10%) managed by Artemis and third party funds, money market instruments, and derivatives. The fund may use derivatives for efficient portfolio management purposes to reduce risk and manage the fund efficiently.

Biography David Ennett is Head of High Yield in the Fixed Income team. He joined us in 2016 from Standard Life Investments, where he was head of European high yield and manager of the SLI Higher Income Bond Fund and SLI European High Yield Bond Fund. Before that, David worked for Old Mutual Asset Managers, CIBC World Markets and M&G in a variety of analysis and portfolio management roles. Biography Jack, a native of Omaha, joined the WealthPlan team at the end of 2014. He spearheads the investment analysis and portfolio management areas. Jack most recently spent three years as a portfolio manager and research analyst for a local independent trust company and, prior to that, spent four years working in corporate risk management and retirement account services for a national broker-dealer. Jack obtained a Master’s degree in Security Analysis and Portfolio Management from Creighton University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Finance.

Biography After a BA in Economics from the University of Sussex (1992) and a MSc in Economic History from the University of Oxford (1993), James joined Baillie Gifford as an analyst in the US equities team. He then moved to Morgan Grenfell as an analyst and, latterly, a manager of US equities before 13 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he co-founded and later ran BAML’s global equity sales team. In 2013 James became a portfolio manager at JP Morgan, where he ran global equity income portfolios. He joined Artemis’ Global Income team in 2018. James is a CFA charterholder.

Biography Jacob’s career in investment management began in 1998 at Copenhagen-based BankInvest, one of the largest independent fund managers in Scandinavia, where he was a portfolio manager on the Central and Eastern European/Russia Equity Unit Trust. In 2002 he joined Merrill Lynch’s global equity macro research department as vice president of pan-European equity strategy. He returned to managing money in 2005 when he joined Artemis. Jacob holds a BA and an MSc in Economics from the University of Copenhagen; and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University (NYU), specialising in international economics and finance. During his time at NYU he was a teaching assistant under the internationally acclaimed economist, Professor Nouriel Roubini.
Stephen Baines - 2021 2023
Biography Stephen Baines is an investment manager in the Fixed Income team with responsibility for high yield bonds and co-managing the Kames High Yield Global Bond Find and Short-Dated High Yield Fund. He joined us in 2013 from Oriel Asset Management, where he was a portfolio manager and investment analyst. Prior to this, Stephen worked for Baillie Gifford before joining Babson Capital Europe, where he was responsible for credit analysis of European syndicated loans, floating-rate notes and high yield bonds. Stephen has a degree in Economics from the University of Durham and is a CFA Charterholder.
