The Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) measures the activity level of purchasing managers in the manufacturing sector. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector; below 50 indicates contraction. Traders watch these surveys closely as purchasing managers usually have early access to data about their company’s performance, which can be a leading indicator of overall economic performance.

A higher than expected reading should be taken as positive/bullish for the GBP, while a lower than expected reading should be taken as negative/bearish for the GBP.

Does the Index refer to the stated month or the month in the parenthesis? For example, the third row states: Jan 04, 2021 (Dec) 04:30 57.5 57.3 55.6 Does the actual value of 57.5 refer to December or January? I hope you can help me, since I need the monthly data for my thesis. Thank you very much.

Why you following the news and not the technical . ? The news is weighted on speculation and is the worst source of data. Understand why the dollar rises and falls and follow the big fish is the dollar. Understand why the US$ index was bullish as oil plunged ahead of the oil report.
