Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.52%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 5.27% or 118.80 points to trade at 2,375.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 2.52% or 31.75 points to end at 1,294.00 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was up 2.06% or 50.60 points to 2,508.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which fell 3.98% or 360.50 points to trade at 8,692.05 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 3.65% or 11.20 points to end at 295.65 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 3.07% or 8.65 points to 273.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 5.37% to 2,376.50, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 2.53% to settle at 1,294.25 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 2.03% to close at 2,508.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 3.62% to 295.80 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.92% to settle at 1,454.60 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.16% to 348.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1751 to 458 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2617 fell and 1057 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.45% to 17.01 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.36% or 8.35 to $2,322.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $78.33 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.18 to trade at $83.15 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.50, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 89.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 105.13.
