Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecoms sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.07%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.01%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.46% or 2.28 points to trade at 157.97 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 0.99% or 2.22 points to end at 226.76 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.91% or 4.51 points to 498.47 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which fell 0.84% or 1.46 points to trade at 172.55 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 0.77% or 2.03 points to end at 261.82 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was down 0.75% or 2.47 points to 325.05.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ross Stores Inc (NASDAQ:ROST) which rose 5.01% to 118.72, Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which was up 3.68% to settle at 142.66 and Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which gained 2.62% to close at 113.36.
The worst performers were Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) which was down 13.77% to 129.39 in late trade, Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which lost 5.34% to settle at 396.78 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 4.35% to 101.62 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:NEPT) which rose 75.56% to 0.24, JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:JTAI) which was up 64.25% to settle at 6.57 and EzFill Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:EZFL) which gained 44.38% to close at 4.62.
The worst performers were Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:EVLO) which was down 43.86% to 6.99 in late trade, Selina Hospitality (NASDAQ:SLNA) which lost 41.23% to settle at 0.43 and Impel Neuropharma Inc (NASDAQ:IMPL) which was down 39.73% to 0.38 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1694 to 1200 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1823 rose and 1658 declined, while 113 ended unchanged.
Shares in Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 13.77% or 20.66 to 129.39. Shares in Selina Hospitality (NASDAQ:SLNA) fell to all time lows; falling 41.23% or 0.30 to 0.43. Shares in Impel Neuropharma Inc (NASDAQ:IMPL) fell to all time lows; falling 39.73% or 0.25 to 0.38.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.30% to 17.30.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 2.90 to $1,918.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.14% or 0.92 to hit $81.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.65 to trade at $84.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.35% to 145.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 103.34.
