Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.02%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 3.67% or 1.77 points to trade at 50.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.11% or 1.00 points to end at 91.00 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 0.92% or 0.35 points to 38.33 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which fell 2.93% or 6.75 points to trade at 223.84 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 1.91% or 4.27 points to end at 219.84 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 1.89% or 3.44 points to 178.12.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which rose 6.19% to 111.60, FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which was up 6.02% to settle at 63.76 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which gained 5.85% to close at 121.98.
The worst performers were Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE:HIG) which was down 3.79% to 98.87 in late trade, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which lost 3.68% to settle at 133.20 and Eaton Corporation PLC (NYSE:ETN) which was down 3.67% to 313.87 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Selina Hospitality (NASDAQ:SLNA) which rose 96.25% to 0.08, Laser Photonics Corp Unit (NASDAQ:LASE) which was up 81.12% to settle at 2.59 and Mobile Global Esports Inc (NASDAQ:MGAM) which gained 77.78% to close at 0.22.
The worst performers were Vincerx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:VINC) which was down 77.82% to 1.06 in late trade, Dogness International Corp Class A (NASDAQ:DOGZ) which lost 28.87% to settle at 6.90 and VBI Vaccines Inc (NASDAQ:VBIV) which was down 28.34% to 0.66 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1619 to 1209 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1850 rose and 1525 declined, while 141 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.38% to 14.98.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.88% or 20.70 to $2,371.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.37% or 1.18 to hit $85.25 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.04% or 0.94 to trade at $89.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 151.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 103.89.
