The Nikkei 225 fell 1.99%, while the S&P/ASX 200 eased 0.96% and the Shanghai Composite fell 0.47%.
The yuan was down against the dollar Friday after the People's Bank of China set a weaker fixing at 6.5186 Friday compared with 6.5152.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was down 0.48%.
Overnight, U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.25%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.47%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.03%.
