Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.29%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.78%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.19% or 0.41 points to trade at 34.87 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 0.47% or 0.75 points to end at 161.98 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 0.10% or 0.04 points to 42.07 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which fell 3.18% or 6.89 points to trade at 209.98 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 3.18% or 15.97 points to end at 486.21 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 2.49% or 4.61 points to 180.23.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI) which rose 10.01% to 173.28, Quanta Services Inc (NYSE:PWR) which was up 8.07% to settle at 264.71 and Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ:CTAS) which gained 5.44% to close at 758.97.
The worst performers were Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) which was down 13.57% to 409.04 in late trade, Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which lost 6.26% to settle at 848.90 and Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc (NYSE:BIO) which was down 5.77% to 300.27 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sonim Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SONM) which rose 844.22% to 3.91, MGO Global Inc (NASDAQ:MGOL) which was up 695.39% to settle at 3.93 and Alaunos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TCRT) which gained 590.32% to close at 4.28.
The worst performers were Agenus Inc (NASDAQ:AGEN) which was down 58.83% to 7.30 in late trade, SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) which lost 40.08% to settle at 1.51 and Leslies Inc (NASDAQ:LESL) which was down 30.64% to 2.83 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2236 to 616 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2645 fell and 720 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged.
Shares in DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI) rose to all time highs; up 10.01% or 15.77 to 173.28. Shares in Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ:CTAS) rose to all time highs; rising 5.44% or 39.19 to 758.97. Shares in Sonim Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SONM) rose to all time lows; rising 844.22% or 3.50 to 3.91. Shares in SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) fell to all time lows; down 40.08% or 1.01 to 1.51. Shares in Alaunos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TCRT) rose to all time lows; up 590.32% or 3.66 to 4.28. Shares in Leslies Inc (NASDAQ:LESL) fell to all time lows; losing 30.64% or 1.25 to 2.83.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 10.01% to 15.93 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.53% or 12.95 to $2,446.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.68% or 0.55 to hit $80.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.35% or 0.30 to trade at $84.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.78% to 157.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 103.92.
