Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.91%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.58%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 3.48% or 0.75 points to trade at 22.29 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 3.40% or 5.08 points to end at 154.46 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 2.97% or 1.59 points to 55.17 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which fell 2.43% or 1.22 points to trade at 49.06 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 0.72% or 2.93 points to end at 406.56 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was down 0.32% or 0.14 points to 44.05.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA) which rose 12.17% to 283.75, CBRE Group Inc Class A (NYSE:CBRE) which was up 8.53% to settle at 94.30 and EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which gained 8.28% to close at 301.18.
The worst performers were West Pharmaceutical Services Inc (NYSE:WST) which was down 14.08% to 350.70 in late trade, Rollins Inc (NYSE:ROL) which lost 5.72% to settle at 41.72 and Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which was down 5.23% to 364.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were China Natural Resources Inc (NASDAQ:CHNR) which rose 215.45% to 3.47, JX Luxventure Ltd (NASDAQ:JXJT) which was up 117.69% to settle at 2.83 and Sientra Inc (NASDAQ:SIEN) which gained 89.95% to close at 0.34.
The worst performers were Treasure Global Inc (NASDAQ:TGL) which was down 45.53% to 0.09 in late trade, Beamr Imaging Ltd (NASDAQ:BMR) which lost 37.85% to settle at 10.00 and Renalytix AI (NASDAQ:RNLX) which was down 35.10% to 0.79 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2345 to 538 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2375 rose and 1031 declined, while 118 ended unchanged.
Shares in CBRE Group Inc Class A (NYSE:CBRE) rose to 52-week highs; rising 8.53% or 7.41 to 94.30.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.57% to 14.01.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.58% or 11.60 to $2,015.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.02% or 1.55 to hit $78.19 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.28 to trade at $82.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.43% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.39% to 149.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 104.19.
