Investing.com - Asian shares fell on Thursday as earnings from South Korea's Samsung Electronics caught attention.
The Nikkei 225 fell 0.45%, while the S&P/ASX 200 eased 0.67% and the Shanghai Composite dipped 0.24%
Samsung Electronics (KS:005930) reported a 30% drop in third quarter operating profit on the withdrawal of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, sending shares sharply lower. The results cap a bad run for Samsung and spooked some investors in the blue-chip firm.
Overnight, U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrials, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors led shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Technology and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.63%.
