Investing.com - Mortgage approvals in the U.K. fell to the lowest level in eight months in April, industry data showed on Tuesday.
In a report, the British Banker's Association said that the number of new mortgages approved declined to 42,200 last month from March’s revised total of 45,000.
Analysts had expected the number of new mortgages approved to rise to 45,200 in April.
Following the release of that data, the pound held on to gains against the U.S. dollar, with GBP/USD rising 0.09% to trade at 1.6858.
Meanwhile, European stock markets remained mixed. London’s FTSE 100 tacked on 0.35%, the Euro Stoxx 50 dipped 0.1%, France’s CAC 40 shed 0.2%, while Germany's DAX inched up 0.1%.
