The DJI was off 0.08% at 10:30 ET. The S&P 500 shed 0.09%.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 0.03%.
Oil fell 1% on profit-taking as OPEC output hit a new record high in November.
Factory orders rose slightly more than expected, while nonfarm productivity was in line.
