The DJI was off 0.14% at 10:55 ET, undermined by IBM . The S&P 500 added 0.31%.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite gained 0.56%.
Oil edged lower as EIA reported a lower-than-expected fall in crude inventories.
The dollar index recovered some ground after falling below 100.
(NYSE:IBM) was down 5.66% at $160.42 after first quarter revenues disappointed.
(NYSE:Morgan Stanley) was up 2.21% at $42.12 after earnings sailed passed estimates on strong bond trading data.
