Investing.com – U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday, he's considering breaking up the big Wall Street banks.

“I’m looking at that right now,” Trump said Monday in an interview with Bloomberg. “There’s some people that want to go back to the old system, right? So we’re going to look at that.”

Trump’s comments concerning the “old system” echoed his previous sentiment on the campaign trail, in which he called for a “21st century” version of the 1933 Glass-Steagall law that separated consumer lending and investing banking.

Trump’s statement had a negative impact on risk assets, as the dow slipped into negative territory.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.02% lower at 20,937.18. The S&P 500 traded 0.23% higher while the Nasdaq Composite traded 0.68% higher at 6088.88.
