Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Materials, REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Intertain Group (TO:IT), which rose 4.06% or 0.43 points to trade at 11.03 at the close. Meanwhile, Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) added 3.76% or 0.33 points to end at 9.11 and Granite REIT (TO:GRT_u) was up 3.50% or 1.400 points to 41.350 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which fell 13.50% or 3.720 points to trade at 23.840 at the close. Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX) declined 13.46% or 1.000 points to end at 6.430 and Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG) was down 12.76% or 0.680 points to 4.650.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 861 to 323 and 123 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.20% to 15.62.
Gold for December delivery was down 3.14% or 41.25 to $1271.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.35% or 0.17 to hit $48.64 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.05 to trade at $50.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.52% to 0.7582, while CAD/EUR fell 0.46% to 0.6766.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 96.10.
