Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the REIT, Real Estate and Information Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.23%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cott Corporation (TO:BCB), which rose 15.70% or 1.57 points to trade at 11.57 at the close. Meanwhile, Newalta Corporation (TO:NAL) added 13.75% or 1.91 points to end at 15.80 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM) was up 7.72% or 1.09 points to 15.21 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW), which fell 6.07% or 0.32 points to trade at 4.95 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 5.35% or 0.16 points to end at 2.83 and Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) was down 4.94% or 0.13 points to 2.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 753 to 708 and 173 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) rose to 3-year highs; rising 15.70% or 1.57 to 11.57.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 0.32% to 15.69.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1199.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 0.69% or 0.34 to hit $49.11 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.24 to trade at $58.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.68% to 0.8008, while CAD/EUR rose 0.60% to 0.7060.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 94.52.
