Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canadian REIT (TO:REF_u), which rose 15.96% or 6.95 points to trade at 50.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 11.25% or 0.370 points to end at 3.660 and Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TO:CTCa) was up 6.55% or 10.73 points to 174.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K), which fell 7.28% or 0.39 points to trade at 4.97 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) declined 6.44% or 0.32 points to end at 4.65 and Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) was down 6.00% or 1.04 points to 16.30.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 609 to 521 and 130 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canadian REIT (TO:REF_u) rose to 52-week highs; up 15.96% or 6.95 to 50.49. Shares in Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) rose to 3-years highs; up 11.25% or 0.370 to 3.660. Shares in Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.44% or 0.32 to 4.65. Shares in Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TO:CTCa) rose to all time highs; rising 6.55% or 10.73 to 174.48.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 21.65 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.18% or 2.40 to $1355.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.30% or 0.79 to hit $61.39 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.11 to trade at $64.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.8008, while CAD/EUR fell 0.33% to 0.6408.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 88.52.
