Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Hotels, Oil, Gas & Electricity and Semiconductor sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.44% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Altek Corp (TW:3059), which rose 10.00% or 3.30 points to trade at 36.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Century Iron And Steel Industrial Co Ltd (TW:9958) added 9.96% or 2.55 points to end at 28.15 and PCL Technologies Inc (TW:4977) was up 9.96% or 11.50 points to 127.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Evermore Chemical Industry Co Ltd (TW:1735), which fell 8.23% or 1.60 points to trade at 17.85 at the close. Tri Ocean Textile Co Ltd (TW:1472) declined 4.95% or 2.10 points to end at 40.30 and Pal Wonn Taiwan Co Ltd (TW:2429) was down 4.25% or 0.45 points to 10.15.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 443 to 327 and 114 ended unchanged.
Shares in Century Iron And Steel Industrial Co Ltd (TW:9958) rose to all time highs; up 9.96% or 2.55 to 28.15. Shares in Pal Wonn Taiwan Co Ltd (TW:2429) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.25% or 0.45 to 10.15.
Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.86% or 0.53 to $62.16 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.49% or 0.33 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.53% or 7.00 to trade at $1311.50 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.09% to 29.567, while TWD/CNY rose 0.18% to 0.2201.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 91.81.
