Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Healthcare and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.16% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which rose 2.55% or 4.20 points to trade at 168.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 1.66% or 38.65 points to end at 2367.65 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 0.84% or 2.65 points to 317.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 5.62% or 4.90 points to trade at 82.25 at the close. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) declined 3.37% or 7.90 points to end at 226.85 and Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) was down 3.27% or 10.40 points to 307.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which rose 2.61% to 168.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.55% to settle at 2365.70 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 0.71% to close at 317.45.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 5.57% to 82.25 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 3.37% to settle at 226.85 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 3.24% to 307.65 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1284 to 165 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 681 fell and 110 advanced, while 13 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.71% to 16.7250.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.29% or 3.10 to $1078.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.21% or 0.46 to hit $37.97 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.42 to trade at $40.68 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 66.895, while EUR/INR rose 0.46% to 73.1540.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 98.08.
