India stocks mixed at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.06%

Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher while losses in the Auto, IT and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.12%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL), which rose 3.48% or 8.40 points to trade at 249.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) added 2.95% or 9.50 points to end at 332.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NSE:AXBK) was up 2.40% or 13.55 points to 577.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which fell 14.24% or 91.15 points to trade at 549.10 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd. (NSE:TAMO) declined 5.19% or 25.85 points to end at 471.75 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was down 3.19% or 40.25 points to 1222.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which rose 3.34% to 249.05, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 2.70% to settle at 331.25 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.26% to close at 577.85.

The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 5.12% to 471.65 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.80% to settle at 1225.10 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.00% to 1969.05 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 794 to 627 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 393 fell and 328 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.26% to 17.2825.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.23% or 2.70 to $1185.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.40% or 0.23 to hit $58.26 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $63.83 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 64.070, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 69.7270.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 97.45.
