Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher while losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Capital Goods and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 4.00% or 17.30 points to trade at 450.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 3.20% or 3.70 points to end at 119.20 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 3.14% or 24.35 points to 800.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 4.11% or 145.70 points to trade at 3,398.00 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 2.11% or 9.95 points to end at 461.40 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 1.55% or 20.35 points to 1,296.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.25% to 119.20, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.45% to settle at 200.65 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 2.12% to close at 8,394.15.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 4.01% to 3,400.10 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.85% to settle at 462.20 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.67% to 2,561.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 989 to 976 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1744 fell and 1673 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.45% or 4.80 to 200.65.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 12.10% to 10.24 a new all time low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.30% or 5.85 to $1,956.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.25% or 0.20 to hit $78.94 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.16 to trade at $82.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 81.88, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 90.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.25.
