Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher while losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 3.78% or 45.75 points to trade at 1256.85 at the close. Meanwhile, ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 2.06% or 5.80 points to end at 287.25 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 1.71% or 20.60 points to 1222.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 5.03% or 15.00 points to trade at 283.40 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) declined 4.50% or 47.40 points to end at 1000.50 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 3.39% or 20.15 points to 574.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 3.87% to 1257.25, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.03% to settle at 287.15 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.80% to close at 1221.75.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.30% to 575.05 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.58% to settle at 277.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.49% to 1471.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1158 to 445 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1742 fell and 872 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.86% to 12.8400.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.32% or 4.20 to $1311.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.37% or 0.25 to hit $67.50 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $73.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.21% to 66.650, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 80.0325.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 92.18.
