Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors led shares higher while losses in the Real Estate, Power and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.03%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC), which rose 4.51% or 15.45 points to trade at 357.75 at the close. Meanwhile, GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 3.60% or 13.60 points to end at 391.85 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.74% or 6.25 points to 234.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD), which fell 2.85% or 4.75 points to trade at 161.85 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.62% or 14.68 points to end at 545.60 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 1.85% or 20.80 points to 1104.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 4.47% to 357.70, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 3.09% to settle at 390.15 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 3.01% to close at 234.60.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 1.20% to 1549.15 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.14% to settle at 4320.10 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was down 0.96% to 72.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1038 to 435 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1128 fell and 504 advanced, while 45 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.62% or 14.68 to 545.60.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.67% to 15.3250.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.28% or 3.75 to $1339.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.18% or 0.55 to hit $46.25 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.53% or 0.74 to trade at $47.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 67.055, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 74.3070.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 96.34.
