Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Oil & Gas and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 5.92% to hit a new 6-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 5.94%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which rose 0.32% or 0.30 points to trade at 93.35 at the close. Meanwhile, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NSE:PGRD) fell 1.72% or 2.30 points to end at 131.10 and ACC Ltd (NSE:ACC) was down 2.79% or 39.30 points to 1367.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which fell 14.27% or 13.50 points to trade at 81.10 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) declined 13.23% or 18.75 points to end at 122.95 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was down 13.13% or 31.15 points to 206.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which fell 2.93% to 320.25, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was down 3.16% to settle at 2478.95 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 3.32% to close at 852.40.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 15.30% to 80.25 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 13.11% to settle at 206.15 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 12.78% to 271.90 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1401 to 31 and 5 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 715 fell and 32 advanced, while 3 ended unchanged.

Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; down 13.13% or 31.15 to 206.10. Shares in Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) fell to 3-years lows; falling 15.30% or 14.50 to 80.25. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 13.11% or 31.10 to 206.15. Shares in Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) fell to 3-years lows; falling 12.78% or 39.85 to 271.90.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 64.36% to 28.1300 a new 52-week high.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.34% or 3.90 to $1155.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.39% or 1.37 to hit $39.08 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.48% or 1.58 to trade at $43.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.82% to 66.740, while EUR/INR rose 1.90% to 76.6300.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.75% at 94.13.
