Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Metals and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 1.88%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.96%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which rose 1.66% or 8.50 points to trade at 519.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NSE:ZEE) added 0.50% or 1.95 points to end at 393.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NSE:ASPN) was up 0.49% or 4.15 points to 853.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC), which fell 5.40% or 14.30 points to trade at 250.75 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM) declined 4.94% or 135.35 points to end at 2605.05 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) was down 4.53% or 4.95 points to 104.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which rose 0.41% to 2507.70, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.27% to settle at 2496.90 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 0.46% to close at 675.15.
The worst performers were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 5.17% to 251.40 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 4.84% to settle at 2605.65 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.40% to 104.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1021 to 418 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 567 fell and 188 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.
Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.40% or 14.30 to 250.75. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.17% or 13.70 to 251.40.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 5.90% to 16.3700.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.96% or 10.40 to $1096.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.36% or 0.66 to hit $47.48 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.81% or 0.99 to trade at $53.63 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 64.191, while EUR/INR rose 0.93% to 71.0570.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.61% at 96.75.
