Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Metals and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 1.26% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.22%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which rose 1.64% or 8.70 points to trade at 538.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC) added 1.18% or 13.45 points to end at 1155.05 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NSE:YESB) was up 0.54% or 3.50 points to 650.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which fell 4.48% or 4.40 points to trade at 93.85 at the close. IDFC LIMITED (NSE:IDFC) declined 3.98% or 5.10 points to end at 123.10 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NSE:AXBK) was down 3.88% or 18.15 points to 449.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 0.64% to 1149.45, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 0.23% to settle at 323.60 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 0.18% to close at 226.00.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.90% to 450.55 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 3.59% to settle at 89.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.34% to 249.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1165 to 260 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 597 fell and 151 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.
Shares in IDFC LIMITED (NSE:IDFC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.98% or 5.10 to 123.10. Shares in ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.34% or 8.60 to 249.25.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.27% to 26.3500.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.80 to $1120.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.37% or 0.63 to hit $45.42 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 0.65 to trade at $48.97 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.21% to 66.826, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 74.5330.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 96.23.
