Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.87% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.92%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which rose 1.29% or 1.55 points to trade at 121.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto Limited (NSE:BAJA) added 1.17% or 25.70 points to end at 2224.20 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NSE:TTPW) was up 1.06% or 0.75 points to 71.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Punjab National Bank (NSE:PNBK), which fell 3.76% or 5.40 points to trade at 138.30 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) declined 3.34% or 6.25 points to end at 180.85 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was down 3.15% or 5.75 points to 177.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which rose 1.13% to 71.40, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.00% to settle at 2221.30 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 0.92% to close at 553.40.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 3.12% to 177.05 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 2.64% to settle at 302.85 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.30% to 885.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1062 to 345 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 577 fell and 150 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.

Shares in Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.15% or 5.75 to 177.05. Shares in Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.12% or 5.70 to 177.05. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.64% or 8.20 to 302.85.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 4.41% to 18.8850.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.51% or 6.00 to $1174.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.81% or 0.48 to hit $58.65 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.33 to trade at $62.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 64.110, while EUR/INR rose 0.70% to 71.3690.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.33.
