Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.71% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.79%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NSE:AXBK), which rose 2.87% or 15.85 points to trade at 567.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL) added 2.54% or 5.90 points to end at 238.05 and DLF LIMITED (NSE:DLF) was up 2.02% or 2.70 points to 136.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (NSE:JNSP), which fell 4.22% or 6.15 points to trade at 139.60 at the close. ACC Ltd (NSE:ACC) declined 3.42% or 50.75 points to end at 1433.70 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NSE:ZEE) was down 2.71% or 8.70 points to 312.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.70% to 567.85, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was up 2.13% to settle at 237.20 and Sesa Sterlite Ltd (BO:SESA) which gained 1.38% to close at 210.00.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.70% to 1169.40 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 2.37% to settle at 360.50 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.25% to 1145.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 774 to 639 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 381 fell and 306 advanced.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.06% to 17.2250.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.62% or 7.50 to $1202.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.73% or 0.42 to hit $59.01 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $65.83 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 63.575, while EUR/INR rose 0.74% to 71.1460.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.41% at 94.91.
