Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which rose 2.99% or 15.70 points to trade at 541.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NSE:HLL) added 1.25% or 9.90 points to end at 804.65 and ITC Ltd (NSE:ITC) was up 1.20% or 3.75 points to 317.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC), which fell 5.23% or 12.65 points to trade at 229.15 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) declined 4.54% or 4.60 points to end at 96.70 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NSE:TAMO) was down 3.66% or 12.70 points to 334.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.15% to 804.75, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.11% to settle at 866.70 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 1.09% to close at 316.75.
The worst performers were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 5.08% to 229.05 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 4.06% to settle at 96.90 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.69% to 333.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 922 to 497 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 498 fell and 251 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 2.37% to 23.7425.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.23% or 2.50 to $1105.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.99% or 0.43 to hit $44.44 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.28 to trade at $47.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 66.421, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 75.0910.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 95.40.
