Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Technology and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.39%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tata Power Co. Ltd (NSE:TTPW), which rose 2.96% or 1.75 points to trade at 60.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd . (NSE:TAMO) added 2.67% or 9.20 points to end at 354.10 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL) was up 2.37% or 19.45 points to 839.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which fell 2.93% or 3.05 points to trade at 101.15 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT) declined 2.89% or 27.30 points to end at 915.90 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) was down 2.67% or 2.10 points to 76.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which rose 2.87% to 60.85, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 2.71% to settle at 354.25 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which gained 1.74% to close at 216.55.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 2.61% to 76.55 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.89% to settle at 1164.15 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.71% to 227.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 871 to 539 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 449 fell and 302 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.83% to 24.7450.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.32% or 3.50 to $1105.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.63% or 0.72 to hit $44.87 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.56 to trade at $48.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.22% to 66.471, while EUR/INR fell 0.39% to 74.3700.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.14% at 96.09.
