India stocks lower at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.19%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Banking and Green Energy sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which rose 2.69% or 5.15 points to trade at 196.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd. (NSE:TAMO) added 2.67% or 12.60 points to end at 484.35 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL) was up 2.61% or 20.80 points to 817.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cipla Ltd. (NSE:CIPL), which fell 2.59% or 17.10 points to trade at 644.00 at the close. Tata Power Co. Ltd (NSE:TTPW) declined 2.31% or 1.75 points to end at 74.10 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) was down 2.13% or 20.75 points to 954.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 2.53% to 196.90, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 2.52% to settle at 483.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 2.30% to close at 2014.30.

The worst performers were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 2.58% to 643.40 in late trade, Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which lost 2.18% to settle at 74.05 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.94% to 955.75 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 793 to 622 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 400 fell and 327 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.87% to 17.1325.

Gold for August delivery was up 0.14% or 1.70 to $1188.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.23% or 0.14 to hit $57.65 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.42% or 0.26 to trade at $62.32 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 63.877, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 69.8250.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 97.27.
