Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA), which rose 2.10% or 3.75 points to trade at 182.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) added 2.05% or 8.70 points to end at 433.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 1.98% or 25.45 points to 1313.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd. (NSE:TAMO), which fell 1.82% or 8.10 points to trade at 436.40 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) declined 1.77% or 2.00 points to end at 111.05 and Grasim Industries Ltd. (NSE:GRAS) was down 1.52% or 53.50 points to 3463.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.13% to 433.55, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.67% to settle at 2565.80 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.61% to close at 1311.00.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.84% to 436.60 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 1.72% to settle at 111.15 and HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.33% to 1057.45 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 810 to 630 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 384 rose and 367 declined, while 2 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.77% or 2.00 to 111.05. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.72% or 1.95 to 111.15.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.81% to 15.5575.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.63% or 7.40 to $1161.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.31% or 0.17 to hit $57.13 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.40 to trade at $62.41 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.12% to 63.526, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 70.3640.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 96.44.
