Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.15%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC), which rose 2.46% or 71.30 points to trade at 2971.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM) added 2.39% or 60.20 points to end at 2580.75 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was up 1.85% or 3.90 points to 215.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd. (NSE:TAMO), which fell 2.09% or 10.90 points to trade at 509.80 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC) declined 1.88% or 23.75 points to end at 1240.55 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) was down 1.29% or 4.15 points to 317.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which rose 2.16% to 2575.10, Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was up 1.65% to settle at 552.85 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 1.49% to close at 214.85.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.97% to 1238.00 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 1.95% to settle at 510.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.54% to 316.80 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 747 to 677 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 357 rose and 328 declined, while 1 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 2.05% to 18.2700.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.60% or 7.40 to $1220.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.81% or 0.49 to hit $59.75 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.64 to trade at $65.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 63.700, while EUR/INR fell 0.91% to 71.4240.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.69% at 94.88.
