Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 7.61% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 7.96%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 45.01% or 11.50 points to trade at 37.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) fell 0.77% or 18.10 points to end at 2339.00 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was down 1.28% or 191.80 points to 14800.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 18.35% or 147.50 points to trade at 656.25 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 14.82% or 31.85 points to end at 183.05 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) was down 10.89% or 9.15 points to 74.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which fell 0.97% to 2338.00, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.17% to settle at 14800.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 4.07% to close at 368.80.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 17.50% to 663.30 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 11.02% to settle at 289.60 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 10.94% to 1842.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1345 to 228 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1928 fell and 401 advanced, while 142 ended unchanged.

Shares in Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) fell to 3-years lows; falling 10.89% or 9.15 to 74.90. Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) fell to 5-year lows; falling 17.50% or 140.70 to 663.30. Shares in Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) fell to 52-week lows; down 10.94% or 226.30 to 1842.20.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 14.38% to 58.8750 a new 5-year high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.90% or 13.70 to $1503.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 5.70% or 1.83 to hit $30.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 8.33% or 2.82 to trade at $31.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.54% to 74.240, while EUR/INR rose 1.29% to 83.0265.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.01% at 97.910.
