Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 3.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 3.00%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which unchanged 0% or 0 points to trade at 241.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) fell 0.93% or 170.15 points to end at 18192.60 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.05% or 12.50 points to 1177.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which fell 9.24% or 9.15 points to trade at 89.85 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 8.86% or 16.00 points to end at 164.55 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was down 8.28% or 10.35 points to 114.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which fell 1.07% to 18151.75, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.13% to settle at 1176.30 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.53% to close at 2296.00.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 9.15% to 89.90 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 6.98% to settle at 841.85 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 6.84% to 682.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1539 to 153 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2336 fell and 560 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 24.53% to 23.1900 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.49% or 9.20 to $1879.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.71% or 2.81 to hit $46.43 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 5.53% or 2.89 to trade at $49.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.63% to 74.036, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 89.9240.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.98% at 90.838.
