Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.70% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 2.74%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 1.09% or 29.45 points to trade at 2,722.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 0.78% or 19.40 points to end at 2,514.50 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) was up 0.70% or 8.35 points to 1,202.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 7.40% or 81.20 points to trade at 1,015.45 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 6.10% or 20.15 points to end at 309.95 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was down 5.86% or 93.00 points to 1,495.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 0.97% to 2,719.70, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 0.75% to settle at 2,513.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.52% to close at 3,090.75.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 7.38% to 1,015.90 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 5.53% to settle at 149.45 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 4.43% to 810.30 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 2315 to 183 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3270 fell and 637 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 42.63% to 20.42 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.33% or 8.20 to $2,461.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.90% or 1.40 to hit $72.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.71% or 1.31 to trade at $75.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.37% to 84.08, while EUR/INR rose 0.69% to 92.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 102.40.
