Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Technology and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 0.41% or 8.55 points to trade at 2079.90 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 0.17% or 0.50 points to end at 291.15 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 0.05% or 0.05 points to 110.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which fell 4.98% or 168.05 points to trade at 3204.00 at the close. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 4.77% or 9.05 points to end at 180.50 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 4.43% or 37.60 points to 811.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 0.32% to 2078.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.19% to settle at 78.95 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.37% to close at 2150.15.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 4.92% to 3205.50 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 4.32% to settle at 812.20 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.97% to 390.65 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1219 to 407 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1755 fell and 802 advanced, while 142 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.14% to 22.0575.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.40% or 7.55 to $1899.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.22% or 0.91 to hit $40.13 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 0.86 to trade at $42.46 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 73.416, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 86.0585.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 93.638.
