Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.92%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.00%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC), which rose 3.51% or 4.55 points to trade at 134.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 1.72% or 5.60 points to end at 330.25 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) was up 0.29% or 0.65 points to 226.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which fell 6.11% or 78.15 points to trade at 1198.35 at the close. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 4.79% or 34.35 points to end at 686.60 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was down 4.01% or 157.50 points to 3776.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 0.76% to 238.60, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 0.49% to settle at 7350.10 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 0.45% to close at 165.35.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 6.56% to 1198.15 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 3.95% to settle at 1088.50 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.48% to 1272.70 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1319 to 257 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1838 fell and 616 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.94% to 20.4375 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1252.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.67% or 0.88 to hit $51.73 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.51% or 0.93 to trade at $60.74 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 71.410, while EUR/INR rose 0.89% to 81.4425.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 96.648.
